MonTieu Sun- Drenched Silk Kaftan is inspired by a sculpture by Vincent Batbedat, La Porte Ronde, 2010. Austere and rigorous, Batbedat’s geometric sculptures explore equilibrium and harmony but also movement and light. With the precision of a mathematician but the exuberance of an artist, Batbedat made architectural structures come to life. Despite a penchant for geometry and order, his work is in fact very complex. Influenced by his extensive travels, Batbedat uses archeological, symbolical and spiritual references of many different cultures in his work. The spiral, for instance, denotes fertility, connectivity to the divine, creation and growth.
monTieu is an edgy Greek brand that specializes in unique designs inspired by modernist European sculpture. Following in the footsteps of Elsa Schiaparelli / Salvador Dali and Yves Saint Laurent/ Piet Mondrian, monTieu uses the plastic arts as a reference and aims at reinventing the concept of esthetics in fashion design. A winning combination of artistic design, elegant cut and gorgeous silk fabric truly make these dresses works of art in their own right. Composition, plasticity, timelessness. Three concepts that motivate a sculptor to create a work of art with the ultimate goal of conveying meaning. Drawing inspiration from these same concepts, Theodoros Papadopoulos joins sculpture and fashion with his innovative fashion brand, monTieu.
