Marinière (Striped blouse) – Melina & Gaultier

The Melina Mercouri Foundation invited internationally renowned fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier to create items inspired by Melina. The proceeds from the sale of these items will be made available exclusively to the Foundation to carry on its work.

Gaultier used his signature blue and white stripes to create a marinière (striped blouse) and a T-shirt based on two photos of Melina Mercouri by the legendary photographers Douglas Kirkland and Bill Yoscary who granted him permission. Gaultier oversaw the design of the marinière and the T-shirt that bear his signature and they were produced to his specifications in Greece.
The marinière, a staple of Melina’s wardrobe, is a classic symbol of style for both men and women.
The garments are produced in Greece by Melina Mercouri Foundation in limited pieces following the quality standards of Jean Paul Gaultier.
