popRenaissance : Eye bowl
The Eye bowl was designed and created by Manos Mpatzolis in Santorini island, 2014. Inspired by minimalism of Cyclades and white/ blue Greek colors, he created the paper mache bowl, using recycled paper on a spherical mold.
In tradition, the blue eye, known as μάτι (mati) is used for protection from the bad energy, dating back to at least the 6th century BC, when it commonly appeared on drinking vessels.
The designer’s philosophy is to create fine art for everyday life and high design items from recyclable or eco-friendly materials. Manos Mpatzolis believes that ‘art shouldn’t be just locked in museums but it should be part of our everyday surroundings, making our everyday life brighter!’ Loving Nature and having ecological aspirations, the designer decided to focus on recycling and reusing materials for popRenaissance creations.
