monTieu is an edgy Greek brand that specializes in unique designs inspired by modernist European sculpture. Likewise, in the footsteps of Elsa Schiaparelli / Salvador Dali and Yves Saint Laurent/ Piet Mondrian, monTieu uses the plastic arts as a reference and furthermore aims at reinventing the concept of aesthetics in fashion design. A winning combination of artistic design, elegant cut and gorgeous silk fabric truly make these dresses works of art in their own right.
Inspired by Greek artist Yannis Gaitis. Yannis Gaitis (1923-1984) was famous for his anonymous ‘Little men‘ depicting the uniformity and sterility of mass living.
Inspired by modernist sculpture, monTieu designs clothes for women who make their own choices. The spring-summer limited edition collection translates into a timeless style while at the same time being artsy, modern and fresh.
Inspired by a sculpture by Vincent Batbedat, La Porte Ronde, 2010. Austere and rigorous, Batbedat’s geometric sculptures explore equilibrium and harmony but also movement and light.
All garments are handmade with gorgeous silk fabrics and come in a very limited edition only. As each and every garment is especially crafted, it is possible to order a dress made to measure.
Inspired by a sculpture by Ma Desheng, Sans Titre VIII, 2010. Ma created monumental art with the stones theme: precariously balanced yet solid and stacked in such a way that they often resemble the human figure.
Composition, plasticity, timelessness. Three concepts that motivate a sculptor to create a work of art with the ultimate goal of conveying meaning. Drawing inspiration from these same concepts, Theodoros Papadopoulos joins sculpture and fashion with his innovative fashion brand, monTieu.
Inspired by a sculpture by François Stahly, La Forêt de Tacoma, 1961-1966. Stahly developed a personal idiom with forms reminiscent of tree roots.
Furthermore, the fusion of sculptural images and women’s clothing stem from the designer’s interest in the artistic aspect of fashion design, as well as his rich experience with the plastic arts.
Most notably, the designer Theodoros Papadopoulos has worked together with many sculptors who have inspired him to design clothing and he continuously presents and promotes the artwork of Greek and European sculptors in his art gallery in Kolonaki, P gallery | sculpture.
